Measuring Fixed Broadband in Oman
Are you interested in finding out more about how well your Fixed broadband connection is performing? Measuring Broadband Oman, a project launched by the TRA (Telecommunications Regulatory Authority) allows you to do just that.
Sign up to get a FREE Connected Home Kit. All you need to do is plug a small device into your gateway at home. This device automatically runs tests to measure and monitor your broadband performance, by testing things like download speeds for large files or how applications like Netflix or live-stream video games may fare during peak hours.
The data collected from the study will be utilised to help enhance internet performance across Oman. So don’t wait - sign up below now!
The Whitebox
Is a purpose-built hardware measurement agent capable of measuring fixed-line broadband connections of up to 1Gbps.
It supports a wide range of measurements, from download speed to gaming tests like FIFA and Fortnite.
Automatic testing
The Whitebox can detect cross-traffic. This means that it only runs tests when you are not heavily using your internet, and it won't interfere with your current internet activity such as streaming a movie, playing games, and so on.
No browsing history
The Whitebox doesn’t monitor what you do online, it only tests the performance of your connection when you’re not using it. The data it collects is anonymous, encrypted, and securely stored.
Simplify home broadband analysis with ConnectedHome
All the data from your Whitebox is safely stored in the ConnectedHome Dashboard.

Discover that performance is more than just speed
As ISPs supply faster and faster broadband, it’s likely that speed isn’t limiting the quality of your internet experience. It can be other factors such as latency and application performance, monitored on the SamKnows Connected Home Dashboard to which all volunteers get free access to.
Is your own home network throttling your internet experience?
Wi-Fi is the most popular method of connecting to the internet in the home. New Wi-Fi standards promise extra speed at the expense of less coverage and penetration through solid walls. It’s not widely understood that the available speed at your router isn’t the same as the available speed on your device over Wi-Fi. SamKnows RealSpeed is designed to measure the difference to help volunteers in our study understand and optimise their own home network.
